New Year, New Project, New Photos

Once upon a time in a desert not far from here, Santa (aka Brian) gave me a Canon Rebel t2i for Christmas (2010) so I could take great photos of our fall, 2011 South Africa trip.  Here is one of those photos now:

Grand Finale:  Elephants grazing during our last game drive.

Rebels of any kind can be intimidating.  To conquer my fears I took private lessons from photographer friends (Josh and Bryan) and classes from Jason and Rob at The Right Light Photography http://www.therightlightphotography.com/ .  Oh...and I also bought the Dummies book (yay for a textbook!) http://www.dummies.com/store/product/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T2i-550D-For-Dummies.productCd-0470768819.html which I still use today.  It's great!

Anyway, the trip was amazing and the photos I took while in Africa are sublime.  Remember, there is no reality...only perception!  But the trip ended and I needed motivation to continue to practice shooting.  I joined a 365 photography project in 2012 that required suggested taking photos EVERY DAY according to a weekly theme.  That didn't happen.  I did, though, shoot every week and posted the best pics online through the project for accolades, group feedback, etc.  I stored them (and the weekly themes) in a Tumblr blog which you can view here if the mood strikes:  http://dianajae.tumblr.com/ .

Everything old is new again in 2013 (including floral print jeans and Sperry Topsiders--in case you weren't aware) so I'm starting a new project:  The Places We'll Go:  A 52-Week Project.  Like the 365 Project, this one is also sponsored by Picaboo.  And even though the company's terminal objective is to sell photo books, cards, etc., the online community it facilitates is strong, talented, and supportive.  I'm glad to be a part of it.  We start tomorrow!

So here's to the new year, the new project, and of course, the new photos.  I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy taking and posting them.
